I am so disheartened today. On the wake of such a monumental milestone of Obama becoming president-elect, it is so bittersweet to know that the majority of Californians just YANKED away civil rights from so many!! In an election with resounding liberal triumphs, the principle of equality suffered such a discouraging defeat as California voters actually approved a ban on same-sex marriages.
To me, the euphoria of the Obama win is a bit marred today by the cruel bigotry directed at the gay population. It was not long ago that interracial couples were fighting for the right to marry one another. It took years of reasoning, protesting and battling to educate the ignorant as to the ridiculousness of such a limitation. Today, we look back in horror and disgust that our laws ever included such bigotry and racism. Yet this simple principle; that equality, freedom and justice is for ALL and applies to EVERYONE, still remains so difficult for the "sheeple" to understand.
To those who voted "Yes" on Prop 8, am I to assume that the United States Constitution doesn't mean much to you?
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal"
sounds so much better than,
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal UNLESS YOU'RE GAY".
or that
"nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws"
sounds so much better than,
"nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws UNLESS YOU'RE GAY".
The irony is incredible and disheartening. I was so overcome with emotion this morning that I literally had to cry to get out some of the frustration from knowing that so many amongst us have declared that it is alright to treat another person as though they matter less.
I could write it a million different ways and still not be able to express the intense emotion and vexation I feel over this. I just cannot believe that people's fear, divisiveness, hatred, ignorance and self-righteousness gets SO CONVOLUTED and ends up resulting in actually TAKING RIGHTS AWAY and deeming anyone unworthy of such basic equality.
Shame on the bigots (and shame on the Mormons, in particular) for bearing false witness, distorting the truth and abridging the rights of other citizens.
It is such a bitter pill to swallow, but we just can't allow falsities or shallow tactics to deter us from fighting harder for the equality for ALL. The fight must continue. We WILL make a difference. We have to. One step forward - two steps back is what we were handed ... but we've got to get three steps in and educate and bring awareness to the severity of this injustice until "they" GET IT, CHANGE and once-and-for-all allow everyone in this nation the right to move forward, to be equal, and to be free!!!

I totally agree. Though I believe -- we must believe - that Arnold Schwarzenegger will veto the measure. He said he would because the Supreme Court will back him. The Supreme Court passed it in the first place. And the Supreme Court has a bit more grasp on the Constitution than the exclusionary, clueless assholes. Have hope.

Wow, that really really surprises me. I thought for sure California would vote yay in our enlightened times,but obviously not as enlightened as we think.

Ungodly (yes, I use that word advisedly) sums of money were spent by those pushing yes on 8, just to impose their religious views on the rest of us. Think of all the charity and good works they could have done with that, if that's their thing, instead of channeling it into depriving others of basic rights. Strange priorities.
Until I can get married in one of their churches, I'll never step inside.

I just wanted to thank you for all of the time and passion you have spent writing and posting your comments on my blog. I agree 100% with you on everything you've said and couldn’t have said it better myself.
I've also created a new website, with a forum, entitled "MORmON Temple Protests"(already ranked #2 on Google under "Temple Protests" and "Mormon Temple Protests"), where people can go to share their pain, anger and frustrations regarding this issue and also plan and organize their next MORmON temple protest.
Please spread the word to as many people as you can so that we can get that site fired up and help a lot of people in the meantime. It’s already been checked out by the administrations of both BYU-Idaho and BYU-Provo and the Church office building, who very interestingly just loves to hang out on my blog and is probably as familiar with it as I am...LOL!! Maybe they’re learning something eh?
A couple of years ago, I did a great 3 part podcast with my good friend Joy, who had a homosexual friend, who was raised Mormon, by fanatical, bigoted parents, who tragically committed suicide in the end.
I highly suggest that everyone listen to this heart wrenching podcast, especially part 3, to understand the pain, suffering and death that Mormonism is causing in this world.
This is where my intense passion and desire comes from and what drives me daily to do what I do and expose the MORmON cult. In this podcast, Joy shares her tremendous pain and emotions with all of us, to try and prevent this from continuing to happen and to raise awareness, all in honor of her great friend.

The Mormons have no regard for anyone but themselves or for human life or the suffering they create, rather they get off on it and are proud of it and arrogantly shout to the world “WE ARE PROUD BIGOTS”, with their hate-filled actions, beliefs and teachings.
Then when someone goes after them for their intense and public hate and bigotry; they start crying and complaining about how they’re being unfairly targeted and singled out and then claim that WE, yeah...WE, the fighters against bigotry and FOR human rights, are the bigots and they are the innocent, poor, God loving people who invite everyone to join their flock, as long as you believe EXACTLY what they do.
